How Children Can Be Affected By Divorce

Divorce is a very difficult time in any family's life. The divorce rate in the United States is around 50% and more people are getting divorced these days. This is a sad statistic because divorce is not an easy process to go through. Children are affected by divorce just like adults. There are many things that can happen to children when they are involved in a divorce. Divorce can cause children to experience many problems such as:


1) Depression - Depression can be a problem for children who are experiencing a divorce. This is because they have to deal with a lot of change in their life. They may feel depressed about what is happening to their family. They may also feel angry and resentful toward their parents or siblings.


2) Feelings of guilt - Children can feel guilty if they feel that they were responsible for their parents divorce. They may also feel guilty if they feel that their parents did not spend enough time together as a family. Children may feel guilty if they feel that it was their fault that their parents broke up.


3) Feelings of abandonment - Children who have parents who are divorcing often feel abandoned. They may feel that they don't have a family anymore. This can lead to a lot of sadness and loneliness. They may also feel angry that their parents are no longer married.


4) Loss of a parent - When one parent is no longer in the home, there will be less attention from the other parent. Children may feel lonely and isolated. They may feel left out if they don't have a father or mother to play with.


5) Feelings of rejection - If one parent is living with someone else, the children may feel rejected. They may feel that their parents don't love them anymore.


6) Feelings of anger - Children can feel angry if they feel that their parents aren't spending enough time together. They may feel angry if they feel that they didn't do anything wrong.


7) Feelings of sadness - Children can feel sad if they feel that they have lost a parent. They may feel sad if they feel that their parents are going to get back together. They may feel sad if their parents are not getting back together.
